INFO
After taking a fantastic Italian course and having always been fascinated by foreign languages and cultures, the idea for my bachelor thesis was born: Allora – a German-Italian language magazine that playfully immerses readers in the Italian language while taking them on a culinary journey through the country. (The first issue focuses on food. A cliché, I know – but a delicious one!)
CONCEPT
The magazine offers both beginners and advanced learners the opportunity to refresh, apply, and expand their knowledge on a regular basis.
On the path to the final product, I spoke with many interesting people, conducted an interview, tasted authentic Italian food, visited the Vatican, learned a lot about learning itself, and did all the photography, illustration, and design work myself. Some of the texts are self-written, while others are carefully curated; many of the photos and almost all of the illustrations are my own.
The structure of the magazine is divided into three levels of difficulty. A supplementary grammar booklet and a vocabulary trainer, along with a thoughtfully designed layout, address a wide range of learning goals and learning styles, all based on didactic teaching methods.
A clear and consistent design concept—also applied to the grammar booklet—ensures easy navigation. Vocabulary translations provide additional support. Articles, cultural fun facts, grammar tips, and vocabulary are interwoven to create a relaxed and playful learning experience.
As a print medium, the magazine has a tactile quality that makes the journey into a new language and culture feel even more tangible.
